  • How is it made?

Primula Cheese is made by taking a blend of natural Gouda and Cheddar cheeses, which are melted with water, butter, milk powders and emulsifying salts. Then it’s pasteurised (cooked to 100C and held there for 5 minutes). This means that when it’s packed and cooled, it will have a long shelf life for the shops and after it’s been opened, it should keep for up to 14 days in the fridge at home.

When you look at the Primula Cheese ingredients list, you will see that it’s quite short and there are no E numbers, colours or flavours.

You’ll also be pleased to see Cheese as the main ingredient, obvious you would think, but check the labels of other brands and see how much cheese they really contain..!

We don’t add any salt in the recipe and any salty taste comes from the natural Gouda and Cheddar cheeses that we use, along with a small amount of butter and the ‘melting salts’ which help the blocks of cheese to melt and to make a smooth and glossy spread.

With a high proportion of cheese and other milk proteins, Primula is a good source of calcium and protein which the body can use to build or repair muscles and bones.

It’s also a good source of energy for active and growing children (and active adults too!).
